Charity class every 8 pm Tuesday
We call our Tuesday 8 pm class our Karma class. Karma is a sanskit word that is the concept of “action” or “deed” and is understood to mean that which underlies the entire cycle of cause and effect. In modern times, it may be seen as simply “reap what you sow”.

Patience

With the challenges that we face today, Bikram yoga is training me to be more positive,
focused and patient. I am more determined to live a healthier life- in body, mind, and soul

Awareness

I knew at once after my first Bikram class that yoga is for me.  I barely knew anything about yoga that time. I have never been seriously into anything athletic and by no means would qualify myself as flexible, so delving into this kind of yoga was exploring uncharted territory.  Somehow though it was immediately clear that it was more than just physical, and that more than anything else drew me in.

During that time I was at a point in my life wherein I needed to clear my head and to somehow center myself.  Maybe being 21 that’s part of the whole quarter-life crisis.  I also was searching for something stimulating; I just didn’t know exactly what.  Yoga couldn’t have come at a better time.  It offered all those that I was looking for and many more.

Bikram yoga is physically, mentally, and sometimes even emotionally demanding.  It is also very fulfilling and empowering.  Every class is an opportunity to test determination and focus, as everyone is encouraged to give honest effort every time.  At the same time it is about patience and self-acceptance, respecting limits and learning to let go.  With all those going on it inevitable teaches balance together with deep awareness of one’s self, and brings it all together as it emphasizes mind-body-spirit connection.

I love how these ideas that feed the practice easily translates to the world outside the yoga room.  Everything eventually affected the rest of my life.  It doesn’t even require conscious effort for the changes within to manifest itself. I sometimes hear people comment that I seem different (good different, of course), but even without those remarks I know I’m becoming a better person with my practice. I can’t help radiate all the positive energy I’m receiving.  Aside from all the wondrous health benefits, I’m more in touch myself and my surroundings.  The discipline has made me more conscious of my thoughts and actions and how they are related.  I’ve learned to deal better with tensions and distractions.  I’ve also discovered how good it feels to be at the present moment, or at least try to be.

I’m several months into my practice and I’m still enjoying it.  I’m grateful that I kept an open mind and let myself get to know yoga and its benefits.  I have plenty more to discover and more amazing yogis to meet and learn from.  I have a feeling I may be a yoga lifer, may it be Bikram or any other style, and I love it.
