Charity class every 8 pm Tuesday
We call our Tuesday 8 pm class our Karma class. Karma is a sanskit word that is the concept of “action” or “deed” and is understood to mean that which underlies the entire cycle of cause and effect. In modern times, it may be seen as simply “reap what you sow”.

Fibromyalgia

18 years of married life blissful… yes but I was deteriorating. Diagnosed with fibromyalgia May 2007 which caused the morning stiffness & tightness in my whole back that progressed to migraine. I would leave my patients & call my personal masseuse to knead all the knots forming on my back.  For 5 years, I’ve undergone all the tests to find out what’s wrong…nothing. Muscle tear, stress. They would tell me to relax & slow down. Yes I did. I worked out one hour on the treadmill AM and PM with abdominal workout only since any workout on my arms, shoulders and back would trigger pain. I met a thai therapist who advised me to try Hot Yoga which was very popular in Thailand saying it will help soften my spastic muscles. What’s that?

I browsed the internet & found Bikram Yoga Manila offering Bikram Yoga. The following day I was inside the hot room and told myself I just need to get through 90 mins it will soften my muscles. After 90 minutes,  I was sore all over but not as tight. I tried it again and the second and third day felt improvement so I went for the 30-day  challenge including Sundays!!! Sunday is the tough part because we used to go out of town Saturday night to unwind.

2 weeks after my first class I looked in front of the mirror and saw a 1/2 inch gap on my lower legs I swear it wasn’t there before. I really did not pay attention to my body shape before. I just wanted to be rid of the tightness and pain but w/o setting the intention, I saw a firm legs, thighs and arms. I was able to confidently wear tank tops again. Great!!!

After I finished my 30 day challenge  I felt I worked for my free t-shirt! I saw it the first day and wanted to buy one but opted to work for it and really be able to “Bend it like Bikram” as it said on the shirt.  Though I may not be able to do all the poses perfectly, I know that everyday that I go to class I work hard to be able to regain the strength I lost in my arms, shoulders and back muscles. I have more energy now in the clinic with my patients and for my family. Less tightness and no more migraines!!!

Of course I would like to thank my husband who never gave up even if at times I did. His will power made me go through  the classess so I will be able to take care of my stiffness & tightness. There are 3 teachers I would like to thank. Tristan, & the couple Marc & Cristina whose dedication to teach Bikram Yoga the right way & push me to work harder in every class made me regain muscle strength.  To all fibromyalgia patients, there’s hope in bikram yoga. It’s painful but you’ll get over it as the stiff and tight muscles stretch over time. I no longer take any muscle relaxants since I started Feb. 1.,2007.
